About Me
As an indigenous CHamoru and Japanese woman from the island of Guåhan (Guam, USA), I feel empowered to pursue a career in research focused on the Marianas Islands and systems in the South Pacific.
I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelors of Science in Biology. I am interested in the topics of conservation genomics, tropical ecology, and human-environment interaction.
I plan to build on my research background in the next year post-baccalaureate and ultimately hope to obtain a PhD. in Integrative Biology or Ecology. With this career, I aspire to give back to the island that raised me by contributing to research and work that can preserve it, influence more environmental and culture-centered policy, and increase the knowledge of our ecosystems and its struggles.
I believe that ensuring the survival and perseverance of Guåhan in turn ensures that of the CHamoru people.
My Journey
In college, I spent most semesters juggling multiple jobs and a full-time course load at university in order to afford my tuition. I later managed my finances well enough to send myself off-island for the final two years of my undergraduate degree in search of more opportunity and experience within my field.
